Hello, I’m Jannick the owner and founder of the Magical Cafe
I am Belgian but spent most of my childhood moving around the world. Becoming a mother had always been my dream and I have been blessed with four amazing sons.
I became pregnant shortly after moving to Basel, and the boys were born a year apart from one another, so I quickly experienced the challenges of being a tired and overwhelmed mum.I was also living in a foreign country, struggling with a new language without the support of my family and long-term friends.
I longed for a friendly place where I could meet new faces, make friends over a nice cup of coffee and where my active boys would feel welcome and could play safely. A place where I could go out without stares or judgmental remarks.
That’s how the idea of the Magical Cafe was born. It took 3 years of hard work to make this dream come true. The Cafe opened its doors in May 2017.
Why magical?
Many people ask me: why the name “Magical Cafe”?
Because…
✨ Children are magical – Being a mum has been the most incredible and fulfilling experience of my life. Playing with my children has been a joy, and here, we want to offer a space where you can slow down and savor the magic of spending time together.
✨ The way they play is magical – I love watching children’s eyes light up as their imagination takes flight.
✨ There’s magic in simple moments – A heartfelt conversation with a friend over coffee and a sweet treat can be just as magical as any grand event.
✨ We create magical celebrations – From birthdays to baby showers, we love bringing joy to special moments and creating lifelong happy memories.
That’s the magic we try to create at the Magical Cafe. We don’t do it alone though: it’s really the people and families who are the heart of it, the wonderful community who supports this adventure and keeps it alive since 2017.
